The shortlist for the Arabic Booker Prize includes one book by a Druze Lebanese journalist and author Rabee Jaber : The Druze of Belgrade,
Other books which made the Booker shortlist include: The Vagrant, by Lebanese author Jabbour al-Douaihy; ; Toy of Fire, by Algerian novelist Bashir Mufti, The Women of Al-Basatin, by Tunisian author Habib Selmi, Embrace on Brooklyn Bridge by Egyptian author Ezzedine Choukri Fishere, and The Unemployed by Egyptian authorNasser Iraq.
The judging committee will be led by Syrian critic and author George Tarabichi, and include in its membership Lebanese critic Moody Bitar, Egyptian activist and academic Hodda El-Sadda, Qatari academic Hoda El-Neimi and Spanish translator and researcher Gonazalo Fernandez.
The head of the Arabic and International Booker prizes, Jonathan Taylor, was present at the announcement.
